What Are The Advantages of Plastic Injectors?

Published on 16 August 2023 ,

Injection ports or injection packers, hammer-in or mechanical, metal or plastic. When it comes to choosing the right equipment for your concrete crack repair jobs, the possibilities seem endless. In many situations, the choice of tools and equipment depends on the intended application as most materials are not “one-size-fits-all”.

In the case of injectors, what you choose to use is widely dependent on the type, size, and location of the concrete crack. Just the same, knowing the in’s and out’s of a product can help you make an educated decision. To help you out, here are some of the major advantages of plastic injection packers for concrete crack repair and leak sealing.

1. Cost

One of the major selling-points of plastic injection packers is the cost. It is no secret that plastic is more budget-friendly than metal and when it comes to injectors, this is a bonus for contractors and clients alike. Plastic injectors are typically more affordable, making them less expensive overall per job site.
For MABI we decided to take this one step further by molding the injector head directly onto the packer during manufacturing. By doing so, we help contractors also cut back on additional equipment costs (fittings and couplers).

2. Installation

In most cases, plastic injectors are quick and easy to install. If using surface ports, you simply mount the injector onto the surface of the crack using an adhesive epoxy. If you are using hammer-in packers, all you need is a hammer and, in the case of MABI injectors, a mounting tool. (The mounting tool allows you to easily hammer the injector without damaging the injector head.) The easy installation of hammer-in injectors will also save you time on the job.

3. Versatility

Since plastic injection ports are often made with high quality materials, you can use them with a variety of chemical products. Whether you’re using resins, foams, or gels, plastic injectors are a safe bet. Their versatility is also what makes them such a popular choice for a wide range of concrete repair applications.

4. Resistance

Along with their versatility comes their resistance to corrosion. Metal injectors (steel, brass, aluminum) are all susceptible to corrosion or rust to some degree. When left inside concrete, especially where moisture is present, metal packers can cause the concrete to deteriorate too. Plastic packers, on the other hand, won’t rust or corrode over time even if left in damp or wet environments.

5. Removal

Much like their installation, removing plastic injection ports is just as easy. For most surface ports, remove the port by hitting near the base with a hammer. For hammer-in packers like MABI’s, use a small ax to chop off the protruding portion of the injector.
NB: in most cases you should wait until the product has fully cured before removing the injection packer.
